Mixtape Monday

Today's Mixtape Monday is all about the band that is No.1 on my list.  Now, please understand, this is no easy feat.  This band has rightfully earned their title of being the best in my mind.  I can, and have, listened to every single one of their albums from start to finish over and over and over, and I am still 100% head over heels for their sound, their style, their songwriting, their lyrics, their messages, their passion, their live performance, etc.  I could go on, but this would be the longest blog post known to man.  Obviously, this is all subjective, because they're clearly not everyone's favorite band, but they are seriously the biscuits to my gravy.  Ladies and gentlemen, here are just a handful of the best songs by the one and only...INTERPOL:

1. "Leif Erikson"
2. "PDA"
3. "Evil"
4. "Public Pervert"
5. "Slow Hands"
6. "All Fired Up"
7. "No I In Threesome"

11. "Obstacle 2"

14. "Stella Was a Diver and She Was Always Down"
15. "Obstacle 1"

Mixtape Monday

I am so excited! I just found out Jason and I will be attending the ACL Music Festival again this year, and one of my all-time favorite bands is headlining - THE CURE!  I am so unbelievably happy that I get to see them live, as they have been on my list of bands-to-see-live for as long as I can remember.  Both my mom and my dad are fans of The Cure, so they've been a big part of my life since I was a wee little human.  Robert Smith has no idea that he shaped me into the person I am today! HAH.

Mixtape Monday

Ahoy, friends!  The music lover in me has been itching to bring back my playlist posts, but I've been having some technical difficulties with my little old Mac OS operating system.  I'm being super stubborn and refusing to pay for the new version of the software because I keep telling myself I'm going to just buy a new computer soon.  We'll see what happens.  I, myself, truly do not even know.  However, I have managed to work out a temporary fix until the magical day comes when I can afford to buy a new computer without feeling guilty and penniless.  Starting today, I am going to publish a recurring, weekly "Mixtape Monday" post with a different theme each time, unlike my previous playlist posts which tended to be on the random side.

So, here it is, in all its glory.  My first Mixtape Monday.  The almighty theme for this week's playlist is grunge/garage rock.  Each of these 16 songs have a raw, barbaric sound that is so real you can't help but wanna rage and riot.  Have at it, kids.

Track Listing:

1. "Jane" - Popstrangers
2. "Ripper" - Jeff The Brotherhood
3. "Think" - The Men
4. "Planet Of The Dreamers" - Jacuzzi Boys
5. "Block Of Ice" - The Oh Sees
6. "Pond Rot" - California X
7. "Get Along" - Mikal Cronin
8. "Mystical Portal II" - Jeff The Brotherhood

Backyard BBQ Summer Playlist

First of all, I hope you all had a fabulous fourth of July with lots of beer, hot dogs and pseudo-patriotic enthusiasm!  I had to work until 11 p.m. last night, but afterward I was able to meet up with Jason, Corey and our friends Kyle and Krista, who are visiting from San Francisco, for some celebratory beers in honor of America's birthday.

It's been a while since I've posted one of my notorious playlists (hardy har), but I swear it's not me!  It's my aging little MacBook that is just barely trucking along at this point.  It refuses to play ANY videos, music links or really anything that requires Adobe Flash Player because apparently my computer is too old to undergo the updates.  Oh, and it can't handle the latest version of Spotify either (which is why I can't take screen shots of my Spotify playlists as I have in the past).  I would love to run out and buy a new one, but unfortunately money doesn't grow on trees for this household, and I would prefer to save my money for our upcoming trip to the Pacific Northwest.  Maybe after the trip I'll start factoring a new computer into my budget!  Until then, please bare with me and accept my typed out song listings.  Here are some of my favorite songs to blast during the summer.  I'm talking windows down, salty beach air, the smell of sunscreen, the taste of popsicles, summer love and everything else that makes our hearts go pitter-patter this time of year.  I encourage you, obviously, to check these songs out for yourself via Spotify, iTunes, Grooveshark, Pandora, YouTube or however else you kids listen to music these days!  Enjoy :)

"Goodbye" - Best Coast
"Catalina" - Allah-Las
"Dream Captain" - Deerhunter
"Royals" - Lorde
"Down By The Water" - The Drums
"Baby" - She & Him
"Sleepwalker" - Nerve City
"Smooth Sailing" - Queens of the Stone Age
"Indigo Meadow" - The Black Angels
"Cola" - Lana Del Rey
"Solitude Is Bliss" - Tame Impala
"King of the Beach" - Wavves
"Demons (Diplo Remix)" - Sleigh Bells
"Wild" - Beach House
"Such A Bore" - Bass Drum of Death
"The Purple Bottle" - Animal Collective
"Don't Worry Baby" - The Beach Boys
"You're So Fine" - Ricky Nelson

Playlist Post: March 2013

It is with much happiness and excitement that I present you with yet another monthly playlist!  Last month I had a near-record breaking number of views which means you guys must like my music selections!  You have no idea what that means to me because music is one of my life's great passions.  It always has been and always will be.  I was blessed to be born into a family that adores and celebrates music on a daily basis.  Many thanks to my Nana and Pop for introducing me to Simon & Garfunkel, Elvis Presley, George Jones, Tom Jones, Bob Dylan and Eric Clapton, among many others.  Thanks to my dad for getting me into '80s hair metal and '90s grunge rock.  Thanks to my mom for instilling within me the importance/influence of a great R&B and/or hip-hop track.  Thanks to my Meme and Papa for reminding me where all great contemporary artists get their roots and sound from - the forever-mesmerizing Everly Brothers.  And thank you to my aunt Kandace for the cherished memories of her singing her heart out and strumming that guitar around anyone who would listen.  Music is everything...at least to me.

Playlist Post: February 2013

Ahoy!  I present you with another playlist!  I totally forgot to post one for January, but, in my humble opinion, I believe February's makes up for my brain malfunction.  I think last February I posted a playlist comprised solely of love songs because of Valentine's Day and what not, but I decided not to do that this time around.  There is a healthy mix of old, fresh, electric, mellow, colorful, jazzy, slow-dancey, fast-dancey tunes to feed your every appetite.  So go listen!  Relish in this pure delight to the ears.

Playlist Post: Christmas 2012

Of all the Christmas music I've listened to each holiday season for the past 24 years, these songs take the fruitcake as far as I'm concerned.  Most are the lovable, untouchable classics from Elvis, Sinatra, Dean Martin and Ella Fitzgerald in addition to a few newer versions.  I'd have to say my all-time favorite Christmas song is and will always be "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" by the one and only Judy Garland.  It makes me cry like a baby every time.  So, go toast your footsies by the fire and enjoy a steaming cup of hot chocolate as you listen to these beautiful songs of love and holiday cheer!

Playlist Post: November 2012

Leaves are starting to fall, temperatures are starting to drop (slowly, but surely) and I've made yet another playlist.  Although, October is my favorite month of the year, November, December and January aren't so bad either.  This playlist features some of my new favorites including POLICA and Father John Misty as well as some golden oldies such as Arcade Fire and Modest Mouse.  These songs are best listened to by candlelight with a mug of hot tea.  Enjoy!

Playlist Post: October 2012

HAPPY OCTOBER, EVERYBODY!

I have had this monster of a playlist completed for about a month now and have been listening to it quite a bit already.  October really is the perfect time for a playlist put together my moi because I get to have fun and throw in a lot of Misfits, Dead Man's Bones and Say Hi To Your Mom as well as other dark, eerie songs I listen to year round.  So here it is - 142 songs to meet all of your October music needs.

Playlist Post: September 2012

It's time for this month's installment of amazing tunes that this gal can't get enough of!  Hip hip hurrah! There isn't much of a theme for this playlist.  I threw in a couple of oldies from Copeland (hello, high school) and Say Hi To Your Mom.  This is also probably one of my shortest playlists, but it'll get you dancing and probably make you cry a few times too.  Enjoy :)

Playlist Post: August 2012

Here ya are, folks.  Yet another playlist!  These are some of my favorite blog posts for sure.  Music has always been such a huge part of my life, and it's so much fun for me to share my music taste with you.  Yes, I was the girl at college parties begging to deejay/obsessively control the iPod, and I'm pretty sure the whole reason I hosted parties in college was for an excuse to make a bomb playlist and share it with the world.

Playlist Post: July 2012

Here it is in all of its early '00s glory - my July playlist.  I realized it would be a lot easier to just take a screen shot of the playlist on Spotify.  Way less time-consuming.  As you can clearly see, this playlist has absolutely no rhyme or reason to it; it includes everything from Pinback (hello, high school) to Rihanna's new top 40 hit.  Sorry, guys, I just couldn't solidify an overall theme for this one, but hopefully you enjoy it nonetheless.

Playlist Post: June 2012

Hello, dear friends.  'Tis the season for another playlist!  I have realized that my "music mood" is ever-changing, which is fine I suppose; it's just a bit humorous - at least to me.  It's also very frustrating sometimes when I'm in the car or relaxing at home, and I can't think of anything I want to listen to.  I usually just end up shuffling my starred playlist on Spotify, which leads to me skipping countless songs before I finally find one that feels right for the moment.  For instance, I'm not really feeling rap and hip-hop lately.  Although, I do think there are maybe two rap(ish) songs on this June playlist.  I'm thinking my summer will be filled with a lot of dream pop, art rock, noise pop, surf rock/pop and my new favorite genre, shoegaze.  Ahhh, this playlist just makes me wanna let loose, breathe deeply, wear my hair au natural (gettin' crazy up in here) and put on some bright fuchsia lipstick.  I hope it has the same, or a similar, effect on you!  Enjoy.

By the way, I opted to exclude the playlist.com embed due to the lack of songs and/or artists from my playlist.  Sorry, guys.  Luckily you can find all of these tracks via Spotify, if you use it.

1.  "Five Seconds" - Twin Shadow
2.  "You Girl" - Sissy & the Blisters
3.  "Let's Build a Home" - The White Stripes
4.  "Moon In My Mind" - Frankie Rose
5.  "Let's Make Love and Listen to Death From Above" - CSS
6.  "Oblivion" - Grimes
7.  "Default" - Django Django
8.  "On To The Next One" - JAY-Z
9.  "Back Of Your Neck" - Howler
10.  "Boy In Lust" - Bleeding Knees Club

Playlist Post: March 2012

a recent photo, taken last night actually
Hi guys!  I worked on this playlist a little last night and just finished it up this morning.  I realize this playlist is heavily influenced by my recent taste - rap, hip hop, club remixes, etc.  It's a little different than the music I usually post and/or blog about, but it's a perfect reflection of what I've been enjoying these days, so I hope you like it anyway.

Because I used playlist.com to make a playlist and share it on here, they don't always have the exact songs from my original playlists I make on Spotify, so I'm going to post my original track list in addition to the playlist.com tracks so you can check out my original picks on your own.

My Original 'March 2012' Track List:
1.  Show Me Love (Stonebridge Club Mix) - Robin S
2.  Light It Up - Blood Red Shoes
3.  Never Stops - Deerhunter
